Some technology is so complex to operate, that without a lot of outside help, one person cannot handle it. That is why airplanes very often have two or three person crews. And even then, external flight guidance is required in order to avoid accidents. Still though, pilots are very prone to information overload due to the complexity of the controls and instruments. But this is also true for most humans in today's world. Not so much for their immediate environment, but more because of the constant onslaught of non-relevant information we choose to submit ourselves to.
